Director ID applications now available

Director identification number (director ID) applications are now available. A director ID is a unique identifier that directors need to apply for only once and keep forever. It will help to prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities.

This is the first service to be introduced on the Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS). Directors must apply for their own director ID to verify their identity. No one can apply on their behalf

To prepare

  • Learn about the dates for when directors need to apply, as it depends on when they became a director. For a full list of key dates see who needs to apply and when.

  • Watch a short video that outlines this new requirement and how directors can apply.

To apply

Step 1 – Set up myGovID (ensure you have Standard or Strong identity strength)

Step 2 – Gather your documents:            

  • your tax file number (TFN)

  • your residential address as held by the ATO

  • information from two documents to verify your identity.
